Amenities & facilities
Our neighbours, Stefano and Katuishia Ferri, look after the apartments and will be around to answer questions about the local area if you speak a little Italian!
All bed linen and towels are provided and Katuishia arranges for the washing and cleaning to be done between bookings. (Do feel free to use the washing machine during your stay.) Stefano looks after the pool and gardens. Please make yourselves completely at home, use all the recreational facilities, including the BBQ, if you enjoy eating alfresco.
Water for washing comes from the wells – although the water is good, for absolute safety we recommend you drink only bottled or boiled water. There are one or two shops in Montecastelli, however, the best places to buy bottled water and shop for food are in Umbertide – the Co-op and Eurospin are both good for stocking up.
Directions to the Co-op: go south to Umbertide, past the station on the right and then turn left just after the Esso garage. At the T junction turn right, go straight over at the first roundabout, right at the second (onto Via Rodolfo Morandi) and then the Co-op is down on the right.
Eurospin is further along Via Rodolfo Morandi past the Co-op, as the road bends round to the right. It closes at lunchtime (12.30 – 4.00) but the Co-op stays open.
Market day in Umbertide is on Wednesday (morning only). Fruit, vegetables, meats, cheeses and other local produce can be found in the old town square; all the other stalls are a short walk away across the car park.
There are some great places to eat in this part of Umbria. Nonna Gelsa in nearby Niccone; Calagrana, further along the Niccone Valley; Pizza Nestor in Verna and Erba Luna in Montone.
